Introducing The Kuschall R33

Inspired Technology

Fusing state-of-the-art integrated technology with revolutionary design into a highly dynamic rigid wheelchair for independent active wheelchair trendsetters

Rainer Küschall Statement for the R33

Rainer KuschallTo give the Küschall R33 my personal stamp of approval I put our newest wheelchair to the test and personally assessed whether it does all that we promise. My main aim was to feel the benefits of the revolutionary Shock Absorber and to compare the Küschall R33 to a conventional wheelchair. My testing process consisted of driving over various areas, including among others repeatedly wheeling over a stretch of road (ca 100m) with wayside, curb and a slight gradient as well as a relatively flat tarred area. During this trial I concentrated solely on my inner-self and body, feeling and even the slightest jolts and abrasions to my spine.

In a conventional wheelchair I felt my body jolt vertically and laterally 1-3 times per second, which is something well known by all active wheelchair users. This continuous jolting causes permanent strain on the spinal cord. Between 1-10% of these jolts can be considered to be severe shocks to the spinal cord, in numeric terms this means wheelchair users suffer between 360-3600 major jolts to the spine per day depending on his or her activities.

The R33During my assessment of the Küschall R33 and it’s revolutionary Shock Absorber I observed that the vertical as well as the lateral strain on the body was notably relieved. In addition to the relief the shock absorber cushioned 70-80% of the pressure when the chair rolled over the various bumps and unevenness of the ground. It therefore absorbed the damaging jolts our spines continually suffer from.

The Küschall R33 is the first rigid wheelchair to be created with a revolutionary and specifically implemented shock absorbing system. All mechanical and shaping elements are centrically located under the seat; exactly under the sacral area and therefore directly under the spinal cord. The new Shock Absorber (unlike the known suspension system) prevents those severe aftershocks which reduce the performance and control of the wheelchair but at the same time the R33 remains wheelchair designed for outdoor and off-road.

R33 users will experience a floating-like feel when driving with the Shock Absorber on their chair. This is the first rigid wheelchair with an integrated comfort component which not only relieves the spinal cord for a relaxed seating and driving experience but also prevents long-term damage to the body and spinal cord.
